Sixty-five suspected illegal foreign currency dealers who were arrested last week on allegations of contravening the Exchange Control Act were back in court this Monday for bail application.

The suspected illegal forex dealers were arrested last week as the Government tighten screws on unscrupulous individuals who were bent on sabotaging progressive economic measures being put in place by fiscal and monetary authorities.

This comes as government seeks to protect the new currency, called Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).

The Zimbabwe Republic Police and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit are jointly carrying out operations targeting illegal foreign currency dealers.

Meanwhile, 11 suspected kidnappers who were arrested last week on allegations of kidnapping a Chinese national Cheng Song at a restaurant in Belgravia, Harare have appeared in court.

The suspects who include three foreigners and eight Zimbabwean nationals, allegedly kidnapped Cheng before demanding a US$120 000 ransom to release him.
