Zimbabwe Makes Strides in Agriculture and Diplomacy During First 100-Day Cycle

Harare, Zimbabwe – The government has reported significant progress in implementing key projects during the first 100-day cycle of 2024, with notable achievements in agriculture and diplomacy.

 

This was said by Dr Jenfan Muswere, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services during a post-Cabinet Media Brieifing in Harare earlier today.

 

The Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Honourable Dr. Anxious Masuka, presented a report to Cabinet highlighting progress in key agricultural initiatives. These include:

 

Irrigation Expansion: 57 irrigation schemes have been integrated into the Presidential Vision 2030 Accelerator Model, managed by the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA), enhancing agricultural productivity and resilience.

Rural Business Development: 201 village business units have been established and are operational, empowering rural communities and fostering economic growth.

Sweet Potato Distribution: 840,000 sweet potato vines have been distributed to farmers in four provinces, promoting food security and diversification.

Irrigation Infrastructure: An irrigation system has been installed on 156 hectares at the Pikinini Jawanda Irrigation Scheme in Mwenezi District, Masvingo, while a center pivot has been installed and is fully functional at the Bulawayo Kraal Irrigation Scheme.

Livestock Health: 10 million doses of Newcastle vaccines have been produced, bolstering poultry health and production. Furthermore, 141 dip tanks have been rehabilitated to control livestock diseases, and 168 farmers have received training on piggery production.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable Dr. Fredrick Makamure Shava, reported on progress in diplomatic infrastructure development:

 

Zim-Abuja Chancery and Residence: Construction of the Zimbabwean Chancery and Official Residence in Abuja, Nigeria, stands at 65% and 70% completion, respectively.

Zim-Abuja Staff Apartments: Construction of staff apartments in Abuja is 70% complete.

Renovation Projects: Renovation of the Zimbabwean Official Residence in Berlin, Germany, is 85% complete, while the renovation of the Official Residence in London, UK, is 75% complete.

Johannesburg Chancery: Renovation of the Zimbabwean Chancery in Johannesburg, South Africa, has been completed.

Commenting on the progress, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, stated, “These achievements demonstrate the government’s commitment to achieving its development goals. We are seeing tangible progress in key sectors like agriculture and diplomacy, which will contribute to the overall economic prosperity of Zimbabwe.”
