Shurugwi –His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa addressed a large crowd at Mkandapi Business Centre today, celebrating the commissioning of the upgraded Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe road, a key initiative in the government’s Vision 2030 strategy.
“I am happy that you have honoured me as we commission the upgraded Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe road, which is part of Government’s efforts towards the attainment of Vision 2030,” President Mnangagwa stated, emphasizing the importance of the upgraded infrastructure in promoting economic growth and development.
The President highlighted that this project aligns with a harmonized regional strategy for road infrastructure, stating, “This vision will implement the harmonised regional strategy for road infrastructure in our region.” He praised the work of Minister of Transport, Hon. Mhona, encouraging him to continue inviting him for similar events.
Today’s event marked a significant step in modernizing Zimbabwe’s infrastructure. “We now have beautiful and modernised roads and this is being done by ourselves, nyika Inovakwa Nevene vayo,” he said, reinforcing the commitment to self-reliance in development.
President Mnangagwa stressed the necessity of an efficient transport network, stating, “We need to provide an efficient transport network which is essential for enabling people to exchange visits, to access markets and also promote regional or global integration.” He underlined the importance of cooperation with neighboring countries, saying, “Zimbabwe cannot develop in isolation; we should network with other countries.”
The President also touched on vital social issues, asserting that “education must be accessed by every child,” and emphasizing the need for accessible health centers in communities. He noted that, “minerals should be used to uplift the livelihoods of people in communities that these minerals are mined,” reflecting a focus on sustainable development.
As he outlined plans for further road upgrades, he mentioned key routes such as Gweru-Rutenga and Kwekwe, Nkayi, and Old Binga roads, stating, “All roads across the country must be up to standards.”
In his address, President Mnangagwa praised local construction company Road Trackers Construction for their commitment to the project, saying, “I congratulate you for a job well done. I am happy with your expertise and commitment.”
The President concluded by urging the community to take pride in their culture and heritage, expressing his appreciation for the strong turnout at the event. “This shows you are united, you love your country and want to hear what your leadership has to say to you,” he noted.
In a message ahead of the upcoming festive season, the President cautioned drivers, urging them to “not drink and drive” to ensure road safety.
Minister of Transport Hon. Mhona also addressed the gathering, thanking President Mnangagwa for his leadership and affirming the commitment to further upgrades and road rehabilitation across the region. “We will also put barbed wire along the upgraded road to protect our cattle,” he added, highlighting the comprehensive approach to infrastructure development.
As Zimbabwe moves forward, the emphasis on infrastructure and community involvement remains a cornerstone of the government’s strategy for sustainable development.
