ZRP rules out politics in Chitungwiza woman`s disappearance

The Zimbabwe Republic Police says the political element is hard to prove in the disappearance of a Chitungwiza woman idenfitied as Moreblessing Ali.
Ali, said to be a CCC member gained overnight notoriety after opposition activists claimed that she was abducted by alleged ZANU PF characters.
The narrative dominated the internet for days, with the usual suspects trying to use the incident to taint the country`s image.
However, in a press statement yesterday, the police said at this point evidence at hand points to a crime of passion.
Through their spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, ZRP said Moreblessing Ali on May 24, in the company of her friend Kirina Mayironi went to drink beer at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre with her dog.
At the shopping centre, Pics Jamba, an ex-boyfriend of Moreblessing Ali approached them and told Moreblessing that her dog was irritating him.
After being ignored by Ali, Jamba pulled out a catapult and aimed for the dog but struck Mayironi instead.
Assistant Commissioner Nyati said, “Kirina Mayironi ran into the club to seek refuge. Pius Jamba then had a scuffle with Moreblessing Ali and dragged her into darkness. The two disappeared. All this was clearly witnessed by Kirina Mayironi who later went home in company of Washington Mutsviri.”
On 25 May 2022, Mayironi made a police report of assault against Pius Jamba and another concerning the disappearance of Ali and Jamba.
Jamba whom some had alleged to be a ZANU PF member by some social media activists and politicians such as Job Sikhala, is not a member of any political party, the police said.
“Currently, there is no evidence to show that Simba Chisango is also linked to the disappearance of Moreblessing Ali or the scuffle which occurred at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre,” part of Assistant Commissioner Nyathi’s statement said.
“Police investigation have shown that Pius Jamba was accusing Moreblessing Ali of dumping him after he had spent a lot of money on her during their love affair,” said added Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
Meanwhile, the Police have urged the public and political activists to allow investigations into the disappearance of Ali and Jamba to proceed smoothly without trying to take advantage of it to settle political scores or gain mileage.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said the police are working hard to locate both Jamba and Ali.
