The Zimbabwe Republic Police has started acting on President Mnangagwa`s order to nip concerning cases of robberies and drug abuse in the bud.

A crack team was assembled by the police, meant to net gun-totting criminals who have wrecked havoc over the past few weeks.
Not a single day was passing without a report of a robbery having been made, it got the attention of the first citizen, who demanded immediate action.

Acting on instruction, the ZRP intensified its operation which is already yielding fruit.

Today they reported that they have shifted gears upwards towards reducing the rate of violent crimes.
In a statement, Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi updated the country on some early signs of progress.

“This follows the arrest of Michael Nhira (43), Alexio Chinzara (39) and Jealous Nyakuro (41). The gang was using a silver Toyota Wish registration number AEW 1154 went to a house in Ridel Ridge and attacked two people with a pistol and knife before tying them with shoe laces.
The robbers ransacked the house and stole a 55 inch HiSense television, Lenovo laptop, wi-fi router, LG Home theatre, groceries , bed spread and two cellphones,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.

The gang was caught by the CID Homicide in Kuwadzana 1, after a tip-off resulting in a shootout.

“One suspect identified as Dennis Munzara escaped while the Toyota Wish vehicle`s tyres were deflated. The vehicle is now in police custody while the three suspects are now admitted in hospital under police guard,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.

In another related case, another crack team tracked down notorious robbers who were being sought after in Glen View and Budiriro.

“The Police Officers intercepted the black Honda Fit at the corner of the 9th street and Patrenda Way in Glen View at 2200 hours. A chase out ensued up to Willowvale Road and 11th Street. The suspects then decided to drive straight into the police officers` vehicle.
Warning shots were fired and one suspect, known as Munya produced an axe, whilst charging towards one of the police officers. Police continued to fire warning shots as Munya ran towards GlenView 3 shops and hid in a gamblers` group,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.

Munya tried to attach the police and he was shot.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Sally Mugabe hospital.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said the ZRP has approached a no-nonsense approach in dealing with cases and more criminals will be netted in the coming days.
