ZPCS Frees 4000 Inmates Countrywide

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services have identified at least 4166 male and 104 female inmates, bringing the cumulative number of inmates freed on the Presidential Amnesty to 4270.

In a statement, ZPCS national public relations officer Chief Superintendent Khanyezi said the meticulous verification process of identifying potential beneficiaries was now complete.

“We would like to appeal to close family members, stakeholders and the society at large to embrace and accept inmates who have been released on amnesty.

“Successful reintegration of inmates back to society is not the sole mandate of ZPCS alone but it requires combined efforts from all citizens,” reads part of the statement.

Further reads the communique, “These inmates were being rehabilitated and have been serving for the offences they committed against the state, therefore, those aggrieved are encouraged to forgive them for their successful reintegration into the society.

In Harare 790 inmates have been released, Bulawayo 688, Midlands 537, Manicaland 552 and in Mashonaland East 397 are now home.

In Mashonaland West a total of 340 inmates left the prison walls, Mash Central 206 and Masvingo 398 inmates are now free.
Matabeleland North has freed 231 while Mat South has released 131 inmates.
