The Zimbabwe National Army has issued an alert following a spate of robberies across Mashonaland West and Central Provinces carried out by criminals posing as military and police personnel.

The ZNA has distanced itself from any of the activities attributed to the criminals.

Unsuspecting members of the public in Chegutu, Kadoma, Chinhoyi, Christon Bank and Mazowe have fallen prey to the gang of six whose modus operandi includes gaining entrance into the victims’ homes through the production of fake search and seizure warrant signed by the Commander Defence forces.

The gang, some in army fatigues and others in plain clothes and purporting to be from Criminal Investigations Department of the police claim they will be searching for any articles that may be used in terrorism.

The shock therapy of a search and seizure warrant, army camouflage and CID officers has seen people panicking and a lot of fear induced in them leading them too lose property before they realise they have been robbed.

The ZNA categorically states that it is not conducting any such operations and all those purporting to be representing the organisation in such acts are criminals. Members of the public are therefore advised that should any of the bogus soldiers and police officers approach them, they are to report to their nearest police station or to Zimbabwe Military Police Investigation Branch.

The numbers to reach the Military Police are cell, 0712 831 705 or landline (0242) 252 094.
