Zimsec salutes students, teachers

The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has praised learners who sat for their A-level examinations in 2020 for their resilience.
Teachers who also contributed through dispensing knowledge to learners within a comparatively shorter period and had to mark in a pandemic situation were also saluted.

The results which came out had a marginal difference with those preceding them, in at 81 percent, 2.1 percent lower than those of 2019.
Professor Eddie Mwenje ZIMSEC board chairperson described them as commendable.

He acknowledged that the conditions were difficult but all stakeholders including parents, did their level best to ensure that examinations would proceed.
The total number of students who wrote two or more subjects in 2020 examinations was 49153 and of these 39802 got Grade E or better leading to a pass rate of 81 percent.

In 2019 the number of students who sat for two or more subjects was 50 774 and of these 42169 got grade E or better marking a percentage pass rate of 83,1 percent. The pass rates for the Competency Based Curriculum has so far been 81,9 percent, 83,1 percent and 81 percent from 2018 through to 2020 respectively.
