The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority is engaging players in the tourism sector over recurring taxation grey areas.
Penciled to be a breakfast meeting, the interface is likely to result in an exchange of notes between the taxman and those in tourism.
Speaking to this publication, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority head of Corporate Affairs Godfrey Koti expressed optimism that this breakfast interface between players in the tourism sector and the tax man will demystify a lot of misconceptions and help improve the working relationship with tourism sector players.
“The breakfast meeting will shed light on charges levied on imported tourism goods and products, customs clearance procedures, travellers’ rebates, and suspension of duty on specified new equipment such as buses imported by your operators. The platform will also provide an opportunity for tourism players to discuss challenges being faced by the industry,” he said.
The meeting which is slated for the 14th of October 2022 at a local hotel in Bulawayo will run on the side-lines of the country’s premier tourism exposition Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo which will commences on the 13th and runs to the 15th of this month.
At least 200 delegates have confirmed participation at the meeting whose guest of honour will be the ZIMRA Commissioner General Ms Regina Chinamasa.
Some of the companies that have registered their attendance include Falcon Air, Concept Car Hire, Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks), Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ), and Villa Gianni among others.
The eye opening breakfast meeting is expected to shed more light on some facilities available to industry players that may have not been exploited due to lack of knowledge.
A thriving tourism industry is in the best interests of all economic players, let alone the tax man who stands to benefit from an expanded revenue base.
