Shamva – Seventy-five graduates celebrated the revival of the Zimbabwe Youth Service (ZYS) at a pass-out parade held at the Shamva Country Club yesterday. Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Hon Kudakwashe Mupamhanga, officiated the ceremony, marking the culmination of the first training program since the rebranding of the National Youth Services (NYS) to ZYS.

Minister Mupamhanga started the program by visiting the construction site of the Centre Zimbabwe Africa (CZA) polytechnic college, a project the ZYS graduates contributed towards, during their training. The college, owned by the Johanne Masowe weChishanu Vadzidzi vaJesu Apostolic Sect, provided accommodation, meals, and sponsorship for the program.

Minister Mupamhanga emphasized the ZYS’s role as a “Demand Reduction Pillar,” instilling discipline, patriotism, practical skills, and a spirit of volunteerism in its participants. He highlighted the program’s focus on creating well-rounded individuals equipped to contribute to their communities regardless of their academic background.

“This orientation program equips every participant with valuable skills, empowering them to be productive members of society,” Minister Mupamhanga stated. He further praised the graduates for embodying the spirit of “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” (a nation is built by its own people) through their dedication and hard work.

The graduates showcased their acquired skills through marching drills and martial arts demonstrations, signifying their preparedness for potential careers in various national services, including the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), and Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks), where they would be granted preferential consideration upon application.

Central Committee member Sidney Chiwara delivered the vote of thanks, while Provincial Director in the Ministry of Youth, Byl Manyange, represented the Resident Minister. The CZA was represented by its Secretary General, Mr. Chingwena.

The event saw a notable presence of dignitaries, including Members of Parliament Joseph Mapiki and Isaac Chinodakufa, along with various heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
