Zimbabwe last week received 500 000 doses of Sinopharm Vaccine and is expecting seven million more doses by August.
The vaccines were bought by National Treasury from Chinese COVID-19 Vaccine producer SinoPharm.
Receiving the consignment at Robert Mugabe International Airport yesterday was Minister Finance and Economic Deveopment , Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube who said that his Ministry is serious about ensuring the attainment of herd immunity in the face of the ever mutating COVID-19 virus Pandemic.
Minister Ncube said that the misleading news articles suggesting that Zimbabwe was facing vaccine scarcity are untrue.
“The arrival of these vaccines tell you that there is no shortage and there will be no shortage. Secondly we are receiving 2 million vaccines by the end of next week, after that we will order another 1,5 million doses and then in the month of August we will order another 3,5 million doses of vaccine.
You can see that we are very focused on our vaccine acquisition agenda and we will not have a shortage at all,” said Minister Ncube.
Minister Ncube added that Zimbabwe is headed towards herd immunity in numbers and urged all Zimbabweans to get vaccinated.
The Chinese Embassy to Zimbabwe in commented on the delivery yesterday in a post on their twitter account that said,
“The arrival of a newly-procured 500,000 Sinopharm vaccines will boost Zimbabwe’s vaccination program. Since immunization is becoming even more urgent in the face of a third wave, it has testified to the solidarity between Zimbabwe and China against the Covid-19.”
Regardless of the misinformation on the state of Vaccines in Zimbabwe National Treasury has been ensuring a steady and adequate supply of vaccines in sight of their Herd Immunity target.

• 500K bought from Sinopharm
• 500K donated Sinopharm
• 35K Covaxin donated by India
• 25K Sputnik V donated by Alrosa
