Zimbabwe is expected to receive another batch of 500,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses in June 2021.
Speaking at a Post Cabinet briefing on Wednesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa updated the press of the new development.
“Regarding vaccine procurement, the public is informed that delivery of the Sinopharm vaccine doses which were ordered from China is expected June 2021,” she said.
This is in accordance with the Government’s target of vaccinating at least 60 per cent of the population so as to achieve herd immunity.
The Government has so far received as donations and procured over 2 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the form of Sinopharm and Sinovac from China, Covaxin from India and Sputnik-V from Russia.
As of May 24, 2021, a total of 633635 people had received their first dose and 288437 their second dose since the beginning of the Vaccination Program.
“Government continues to urge the public to go to their nearest health facility to receive their Copvid-19 vaccine so that the country achieves herd immunity to control the spread of the virus,” said Honourable Mutsvangwa.
The vaccination program has been effective to the extent that the recovery rate now stands at 94.3 per cent and the number of active cases being 602.
