Zimbabwe, Tajikistan strengthen ties

THE Asian Republic of Tajikistan has expressed interest in forming an economic partnership with Zimbabwe as the developing nations look at growing their economies

 

Vice President General Rtd Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who is in Tajikistan for the Water Summit paid a courtesy call on Tajikistan President, His Excellency Emamoli Rahmon at the presidential palace in Dushanbe, where the two discussed several areas of possible cooperation.

 

After the discussions, Vice President Chiwenga expressed optimism about forging deeper economic relations with Tajikistan and highlighted Zimbabwe’s desire to tap into the Asian nation’s expertise in water management, irrigation systems and hydropower generation.

 

“Greater cooperation between our two countries that we shall have propelled through our foreign ministries we are talking of all areas from agriculture, mining industry and tourism, all economic areas that we can propel,” said Dr Chiwenga.

 

Vice President Chiwenga is leading a Zimbabwean delegation to the Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference.

 

The global event brings together leaders, water experts and other stakeholders to share knowledge, promote water technologies and foster innovation in water resource management.

 

Discussions at the conference, which will run until Thursday the 13th, will also address the worsening global water scarcity problem caused by climate change.
