Zimbabwe Signs Landmark 12 MOUs with Iran

Zimbabwe on Thursday received President of the Islamic Republic of Iran His Excellency Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi who is in Zimbabwe on a State visit.
This is the first trip to Africa by an Iranian leader in 11 years.
HE. Dr Raisi was welcomed by HE President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Airport in Harare yesterday morning. In the afternoon the two engaged in bilateral discussions, and several MOU’s were signed as the two nations deepen their ties.
A total of 12 MoUs were signed at the State House yesterday. These were Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy and Power Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Development of Bilateral Cooperation to expand mutual cooperation between the Parties in the field of oil, gas, refining and petrochemical industries.
The second MoU between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Islamic Republic of Iran on Co-operation in the field of Telecommunications and Information Technology.
The purpose of this MOU is to encourage and promote co-operation between the Parties in the field of ICT’s, comprising, broadband network infrastructure, innovation, capacity building, smart technologies, research and development, cyber-security standard development, standards development, software development, telecommunication (regulatory, physical/fixed network, mobile network), data centre management in accordance with the domestic law in force in the territory of each party and on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
The third MoU was signed between the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare of the Islamic Republic of
Iran on Cooperation in the fields of Social Security and Social Insurance.
The aim of this MoU is to promote and develop activities of cooperation in the fields of social security and social insurance.
The fourth MoU was signed between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Islamic Republic of Iran on Cooperation on the fields of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
The objective of this MOU is to provide a framework for co-operation between the Parties in the fields of empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Fifth MoU was signed between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Islamic Republic of Iran on Cooperation in the fields of Social Protection and Child Protection.
The objective of this MOU is to define the basis for institutional relations under which the co-operation is developed between the Parties in the field of social protection and child protection.
Sixth MoU was signed between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Islamic Republic of Iran on Cooperation in the Fields of Labour and Employment.
The objective of this MOU is to provide a framework for co-operation between the Parties in the fields of labour and employment.
Seventh MoU was signed between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Islamic Republic of Iran on Cooperation in the Fields of Occupational Safety and Health and Reduction of Labour Related Accidents.
The objective of this MOU is to provide a framework for co-operation between the Parties in the fields of Occupational Safety and Health and reduction of labour related accidents.
Eighth MoU was signed between the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe and The Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.
This MoU will expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of higher education, scientific research and technology development based on the principle of equality and respect of mutual interests and compliance with the national legislations of the two countries.
Nineth MoU was signed between the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Minister of Agriculture-Jahad of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The MoU seeks to promote, develop and increase cooperation in the field of land management, fisheries development, water resources management and agriculture and rural development within their respective jurisdictions by exploring the possibilities for cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
Tenth MoU was between the Food and Drug Administration of The Islamic Republic of Iran and The Medicines Control Authority of the Republic of Zimbabwe on Cooperation in The Regulatory Functions of Pharmaceutical Products, Biological Products and Traditional Medicines.
The MoU will promote and develop cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical products, biological products and traditional medicines regulatory functions within the respective jurisdiction by cooperating in the manner set out in this MOU on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
Eleventh MoU was signed between Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company
(ITMC) and MAKA Resources Limited.
The purpose of the MoU is to establish a tractor manufacturing plant in Zimbabwe.
The last MoU was signed between Tamin Pharmaceutical Investment Company and National Pharmaceutical Company.
The objective of this MOU is to establish a framework for collaboration between TPICO and NatPharm to promote and develop cooperation in the field of supply, distribution and manufacturing of medicines and medical commodities within the respective jurisdiction by cooperating in the manner set out in this MOU on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
Zimbabwe and Iran established diplomatic relations in 1983 and over the years, bilateral relations have grown. The State visit comes against the backdrop of the Eighth and Ninth Sessions of the Zimbabwe-Iran Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) held in August 2022 in Harare and Tehran in February 2023, respectively.
