Government has taken delivery of another consignment of two million Sinovac doses.

The jabs, procured through funds from treasury arrived at the Robert Mugabe International Airport today.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube and Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr John Mangwiro led the delegation that received the vaccines.

The batch – which is the largest single vaccine shipment into the country- has taken total imported vaccines to 4.2 million.

Commenting on the milestone, Minister Ncube said these are results of the surplus.

“Today Zimbabwe received a record 2 million doses of the World Health Organization approved SINOVAC Covid 19 vaccine purchased from China, using surplus funds from prudent economic management. Vaccination program is part of the economic recovery strategy,” said Minister Ncube.

Zimbabwe is expected to receive 1.5million more doses of vaccine doses next week (on Thursday 15th July 2021) and another 2 million doses end of July.

Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Mangwiro said Universities and Colleges will now be vaccination centres.

Zimbabwe plans to vaccinate at least 10 million people to reach herd immunity.
