Government has entered into a Design, Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) agreement with Bitumen World to rehabilitate and upgrade the Beitbridge -Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway.
Speaking at the Post Cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, said ;
“Cabinet considered and adopted the proposed partnership between the Government of Zimbabwe and Bitumen World for the rehabilitation of the Beitbridge-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road,” Dr. Muswere stated, relaying information from the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Honorable Felix Mhona.
He explained that the project aims to upgrade, rehabilitate, widen, and dualize sections of the road through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework.
Dr. Muswere emphasized the importance of this rehabilitation, noting that it will facilitate better movement of transit traffic, positioning the route as the most preferred along the North-South Corridor.
The highway connects Zimbabwe to neighboring countries, including South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia.
Additionally, financial arrangements have been finalized for the rehabilitation of other critical roads, including the Kwekwe-Nkayi-Lupane Road, the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road, and the Karoi-Binga-Cross Dete Road. These projects are set to commence immediately.
