HARARE – The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has issued a statement refuting claims circulating online that it has contracts with individuals for the procurement of election materials. The commission asserts that all materials for the 2023 Harmonised Elections were obtained through proper tender processes and in accordance with procurement regulations.
The statement, released by Acting Chief Elections Officer Ms. C. Ngandini, directly challenges individuals alleging a contractual relationship with the ZEC, urging them to provide evidence. It also clarifies that the actual amounts spent on election materials were significantly lower than figures circulating on social media, which the commission deems “mischievous.”
The ZEC further states that it has verified with the supplier, who confirmed in writing that no contracts were made with the individuals in question. The commission emphasizes that there were no third parties involved in the procurement process, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The statement concludes by dismissing claims of a contractual link between the ZEC and the individuals as “inaccurate, misleading, and mischievous,” urging stakeholders to disregard them. The commission assures the public that all procurements were conducted above board, maintaining its commitment to a fair and transparent electoral process.
