Government has continued to purchase Covid-19 vaccines which are the country`s best shot at returning to normalcy.

Since they became available on the global market, Zimbabwe has been working hard to procure vaccines with barely a month passing without the country taking delivery of a less than 1 million doses.

Information, Broadcasting and Publicity Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa announced the latest acquisition.

“On the procurement of vaccines, it is advised that 1.25 million doses of Sinopharm vaccines were delivered on 6 December 2021, constituting the first batch of the 2.5 million doses procured. The remaining 1.25 million vaccines of the Order are expected before the end of the week. The country is also expecting a donation of one million doses from the People’s Republic of China. Government assures the citizenry that the country has adequate stocks of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), sanitisers and medicines required for supportive management of COVID-19,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

Government has been encouraging health workers and those with co-morbidities to get booster shots at their nearest health centres.

The call for the booster shot has been necessitated by the new Omicron variant which is now in Zimbabwe, marking the beginning of a fourth Covid-19 wave.
