Government has approved a roadmap for the formulation of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2), a five-year plan that will guide the country’s development from 2026 to 2030.
Speaking at the Post Cabinet briefing today, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere said the development comes as the current NDS 1, which began in 2021, is set to conclude at the end of 2025 with notable achievements in the areas of fiscal consolidation, monetary policy restoration, and foreign exchange market liberalization.
“NDS 2 will be the country’s second 5-year medium-term plan towards the realisation of the country’s Vision 2030. It will contain strategies and interventions which will ensure sustainable inclusive growth and development, innovation for modernisation and industrialisation, adaptation to climate change, eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable livelihoods of the vulnerable members of society,” said Dr Muswere.
The NDS 2 will build upon the successes of its predecessor and focus on sustainable growth, innovation, climate adaptation, poverty eradication, and the promotion of livelihoods for vulnerable citizens.
The 18-month process of developing NDS 2 will involve extensive stakeholder consultations to identify national priorities.
Additionally, these priorities will form the foundation for the strategy’s formulation and implementation. Key steps in the process include the formation of thematic working groups, strategy formulation, and a terminal evaluation of NDS 1.
The draft NDS 2 is expected to be presented to Cabinet for approval in November 2025 subsequently launched for implementation.
