Football fans have once again been plunged into mourning, following the death of former Highlanders and Caps United legend, Ernest Maphepha Sibanda.

Popularly known as Maphepha, Sibanda died at Matar Dei Hospital after a long battle with diabetes.

He was 63.

His sister Beauty, said the family is still in shock after losing a caring brother.

“He also had cancer, but he had been living and managing it well. Diabetes is the disease which eventually took his life. As a family, we are still trying to accept this and struggling to really take it in,” she said.

Maphepha played for Highlanders in the early 80s before moving to Caps United where he played alongside names like Shackman Tauro.

He later on became a Manager for Highlanders and Zimbabwe Warriors team.

Currently he was a board member for the Bulawayo Chiefs club.

Maphepha death comes hard to the football fraternity as they are still grasping from the loss of other two legends Steve Kwashi and Joe Kode Mugabe.
