Zimbabwe has aligned a greater percentage of its 2013 constitution with operational statutes.
The alignment work which was started by President Mnangagwa when he was directly in charge Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs portfolio has seen 81 percent of the laws being amended or enacted to speak to the new constitution.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa gave an update on the progress at today`s Post Cabinet briefing in Harare.
“149 statutes have been aligned to the Constitution, leaving a balance of 34,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
This averages the enactment of 18 laws per year, and if the momentum is maintained, the 2013 constitution will be fully aligned by end of 2022.
Leader of Government business in parliament, Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi recently said that the number of aligned laws could have been higher had it not been of the Covid-19 pandemic which has on instances forced the adjournment of sessions.
