President Emmerson Mnangagwa has thanked the People`s Republic of China for its continued support of projects currently being pursued by the second republic.
He made these remarks while touring the Robert Mugabe International Airport, where he was being appraised on the progress made so far.
“Allow me to express my profound gratitude to the People’s Republic of China under our Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership Framework for extending their support which made it possible for our nation to realize this milestone achievement,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa said that over the years, China has remained besides Zimbabwe in times of need and now that the economy is recovering, they remain steadfast in their allyship.
“This unwavering support remains a show of confidence which the Government of the People’s Republic of China have in our economic development trajectory,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe will not pay attention to those who are intimidated by the relationship shared by the two countries.
China has proven to be an all weather friend to Zimbabwe, it was the first country to support Zimbabwe with donations of PPEs and COVID-19 vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Mnangagwa commended the work being done to expand the airport, saying the new look designs and envisioned aesthetics of the airport are indeed a reflection of the image, rich heritage and culture of the country.
“Today’s comprehensive tour has given me and my delegation a broad appreciation of the specific work being undertaken. This airport upgrading project supports my Government’s drive to modernize our great country and will serve as an enabler to the broader economic growth which is under way,” said President Mnangagwa.
Zimbabwe is looking to make RGM Airport the air transit hub of the Southern Region due to the country`s centrality and a Chinese company was contracted to execute the work.
