The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is set to launch a new television channel following the granting of a licence by the country’s broadcasting regulatory authority BAZ.
In a public notice, the public broadcaster said the new channel will be called Zimbabwe National Television (ZNTV).
“Take notice that, in terms of section to (1 1) of the Broadcasting Services Act (Chapter 12:06), the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation hereby publishes its license for the provision of a new television channel called Zimbabwe National Television (ZNTV).”
Meanwhile, the state broadcaster operates one television channel, ZTV, and four radio stations namely, Spot FM, Radio Zimbabwe, Power FM and National FM.
The granting of the license is further testimony of government ‘s commitment to further liberalise the airwaves as it comes hot on the heels of the imminent launch of yet another private television station NRTV which is set to launch anytime on DSTV.
Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) and 3kTv are some of the licenced private television channels already operating in the country.
