The newly elected ZANU PF Youth League National Executive Council has been challenged to rise to the occasion and ensure that the league contributes to the greater party mobilisation prowess.
Speaking in opening remarks to the Party’s 362nd Ordinary Session of the Politburo, yesterday, ZANU PF First Secretary and President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa challenged the youth leadership to work hard for the greater good of the party.
“The new Youth League leadership should implement grassroots strategies to address the needs of the youths in communities. We are all servants of the people and this isn’t the culture that should be entrenched in the party.
Youth leadership should be in sync with innovation and technology driven strategies centred on production and productivity across all sectors of the economy,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President, however, stressed the need for the collective party leadership and organs to put their hands together to nurture and guide the new youth leadership so that they mature into good and capable leaders of the future.
Such organs as the Chitepo School of Ideology were challenged to take up the training and mentorship role to groom and shape the new national youth executive.
“The responsibility now lies with us all in leadership to nurture and help groom these young cadres into an effective youth vanguard that is up to the task of youth mobilisation and party growth in modern times.
The Chitepo College (of Ideology) is thus directed to craft appropriate and comprehensive orientation workshops which draw from a cross section of stakeholders towards empowering the youths,” he said.
The new youth league executive comes in to take over at a crucial time when the party is heading into a decisive election which it aims to win with an overwhelming and uncontested majority.
President Mnangagwa challenged the youth league leadership to be true servants of the people who speak the people’s language and relate to their day to day challenges.
He warned against a tendency by political leaders of forgetting their roles once they get elevated into higher positions of authority.
“Hatidi chi ” shefu-shefu” mentality (we don’t want the bossy mentality) among the youth and indeed across all structures of the party. We are all servants of the people. His is the culture that most be entrenched within the party. Aspects to do with opportunities around digitalisation, export-led production, and the penetration of value chains must also be taken up by the youth,” said President Mnangagwa.
