The ruling ZANU PF Party is set to effect amendments to its guiding document in sync with changing dynamics and the need to modernise the party.
This was revealed by the Party First Secretary and President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa in opening remarks to the party’s 362nd Ordinary Session of the Politburo in Harare today.
“Policy pronouncements and principles coupled with the ever-changing landscape entail that we make appropriate amendments to our party constitution, as we continue the modernization of our colossal revolutionary party,” said the President Mnangagwa in opening remarks.
President Mnangagwa revealed that the Party’s Secretary for Legal Affairs Cde Munyaradzi Mangwana would table the proposed amendments in today’s session, to which he urged members to contribute and debate bearing in mind the need for the party to continue to hold itself to the highest standards as guided by its well-established ideology.
“Let us not advance amendments for short-sighted interests or gains, but always keep the bigger picture and vision of our party in mind,” said President Mnangagwa.
A constitution, as a living document must continue to be alive to and in touch with reality in order to serve the needs and interests of the people.
Therefore it is important that the document is reviewed and updated regularly so that it is responsive to and in touch with the changing needs for the wider national good.
President Mnangagwa urged the party to continue to safeguard the sovereignty and interests of the country, always ready to defend against and oppose those that seek to disturb the peace, unity and harmony that exists in the country.
“All attempts to split and undermine our unity, social harmony and stability should be resolutely opposed by the rank and file of our party. Equally, development projects being implemented by the Second Republic across the country must be supported and popularised, in the national interest and for the good of our people,” he said.
