Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU PF party has weighed in behind the government and leadership of the People’s Republic of China in the latest spat with the USA following Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
In a statement ZANU PF made it clear that Pelosi’s visit to the Chinese Island was ‘intrusive, imprudent and provocative’ to the Chinese people as it violated the ‘One China policy’ on Taiwan.
“Zimbabwe stands fully behind the People’s Republic of China in the face of the intrusive, imprudent and provocative visit by Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the Congress of the United States government. It is the cardinal practice of international diplomacy that there is One China and Taiwan is an integral part of mainland China. The One China principle is also the basis upon which Beijing and Washington rests,” said the party in a statement.
ZANU PF also observed that efforts and manoeuvres to offend this principle will always lead to tension or even lead to unenviable conflict between the two leading economies of the world. Pelosi’s visit to Taipei poses the greatest threat to date to the existence of cordial relations between the two nuclear-armed nations.
ZANU PF further urged Washington to stay true to the One China policy and desist from fanning separatist tendencies by Taipei for the sake of peace on the island.
ZANU PF condemned Washington’s revisionist tendencies which it is using to try and revise the One China policy in a manner that risks igniting a conflict that would be bad for the world.
“Speaker Pelosi should desist from hiding behind the cloak of false democratic excuses as she tramples upon China’s quest for indissoluble unity of the people and territory of Taiwan with the 1.4 billion on mainland China.”
“ZANU PF is in steady solidarity with it’s sister Party the Communist Party of China in this brazen intrusion and provocation by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her misguided visit to Taipei. It behoves the USA to behave as a responsible superpower on the global stage. It is undesirable that the world is needlessly brought to the precipice of suicidal nuclear conflagration,” said ZANU PF in the statement signed by it’s National Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa.
ZANU PF and the Communist Party of China are long time allies from the time of Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence from colonial Britain. China is one of a few countries that stood with ZANU PF in it’s quest to liberate the country.
China sacrificed moral and material support towards Zimbabwe’s independence and as such the Southern African country’s remains indebted to the Asian country for such solidarity.
In contemporary times it is China which has helped Zimbabwe for over 20 years now that Harare has been under unjust sanctions from Washington and the European Union. China remains Zimbabwe’s all weather friend as a result of it’s none imperialist model of foreign relations.
