ZANU PF sets Congress dates

The ruling party ZANU PF has set the date for its seventh National People’s Congress, slated to start on October 29.

This year`s edition of the event, held every five years, will be in Harare at the Robert Mugabe Square.
The last Congress was held in Goromonzi in 2019.

It was attended by all Central Committee members, Ational Consultative Assembly, National Council of the Women’s League, National Council of the Youth League, National Council of the War Veterans League, Provincial Executive Councils, District Coordinating Committee Executives and one District Chairperson per party district from the Main Wing, Women’s League, Youth League and War Veterans League.

In a letter to Party leadership, ZANU PF National Secretary for Administration Cde Dr Obert Mpofu said the People’s Congress is where Memebrs of the Central Committee shall be elected.

“According to terms of Article 5 Section 24, the National People’s Congress shall be the supreme policy-making organ of the party;
Elect the President and First Secretary, Elect members of the Central Committee; Formulate, pronounce and declare policies of the Party,” wrote Cde Mpofu.

He said the Congress will also allow the party leadership to formulate directives, and rules to all organs of the party.

“Approve the financial statements of accounts, Be the supreme and ultimate authority for the implementation, supervision of the policies, directives and regulations of the Party and have power and authority to amend the Party Constitution,” further read the letter.
All structures eligible to participate have been tasked to submit resolutions that shall be discussed at the ZANU PF 7th National People’s Congress.
