ZANU PF Primary Elections: Epworth aspiring MP Cde Damson disqualified
Brian Rungano Temba
ZANU PF Harare Provincial Political Commissar and Epworth aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) comrade Kudakwashe Damson has been disqualified from running in the upcoming primary elections over his involvement in violent altercations with Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) officials, the Party’s spokesperson has said.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Harare on Monday, ZANU-PF National Spokesperson Cde Chris Mutsvangwa said Cde Damson clashed with ZEC officials.
“We are going to conduct these elections peacefully. One candidate who had an altercation with ZEC from Epworth was disqualified
“Cde Damson, the PC for Harare, was disqualified. We hope he will accept the decision. He still has a future in the Party and is a hard worker,” he said.
Cde Mutsvangwa said that nobody was bigger than the Party and that the democratic process, which was opened up by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, will not be marred by violent acts.
“This serves as an example of what our leader is always saying against violence.
“This also goes to show that ‘zero tolerance against violence’ does not only refer to interparty violence, but it’s across…,” he said.
Apart from Cde Damson, the names of other candidates who were disqualified will be made public during the course of the week.
Approximately 99.9 percent of the candidates were selected during the process.
“His Excellency is satisfied with the turnout, the list came in through the Commissariat Department and everyone who felt that justice was not done had to bring the list directly to the Commissariat.
“We are not worried about comments from the dream chasers. Each name was called out and the politburo had to agree on each and every submission,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.
The election date for primary elections is yet to be announced.
