The ruling party ZANU PF has extended an olive branch to defectors and apostate members who may have left the party at some point in its history.
The party will be observing National Cell Day Commemorations on June 11 and has invited anyone who may have left the party to rejoin on the day.
ZANU-PF National Political Commissar, Cde Mike Bimha announced the invitation during a press briefing at the ZANU PF Headquarters earlier today.
“The Party is ready to receive defectors they are most welcome. We are ready as a Party to embrace those who want to join us because they have realised that this is the Party worth following and to belong to and contribute to.
It is us making contributions to the Party and I am sure we will be receiving these members in all our Provinces,” said Cde Bimha.
Cde Bimha told the press that the party has decided that the national cell day be observed nationally.
“It is now an annual event. This year it falls on Saturday 11 June 2022 meaning every Party member will go and attend a cell meeting starting at the same time throughout the country at 10am.
Everyone including the Presidium will be going to their respective cells. The President and his family will be in Kwekwe. The cell chairman of the particular cell will be chairing deliberations. It doesn’t matter if you are a PB member, chairman of DCC or Province once you go there you attend and the cell chairman will preside,” said Cde Bimha.
Cde Bimha said cells being the smallest building blocks of the party have need to be vibrant for the party to attain its more than five million votes for upcoming 2023 harmonised elections.
“All organisations begins from the cell. Planning for campaign or mobilisation starts from a cell. The cells are the most active organs of the Party because everyone in the Party belongs to a cell. That is where vital information of the Party and vital information from above is shared. Importance of value and cell will be underlined on Saturday at the National Cell Day,” said Cde Bimha.
Cde Bimha instructed all cells to take advantage of the day to inspect and verify their membership.
“The agenda will involve, verification and inspection of cells.
A cell comprises of 50 members some have 48 some have 51 but most cases are of 50 people therefore we need to see how many are we. The meetings will account for those present and those who have passed on and those added on to the cell. This is a self-verification exercise where members themselves will verify cell structures and look at issues of registration,” said Cde Bimha.
Cell members are also expected to find out how many are registered voters and how many are yet to register.
President Mnangagwa will travel to Kwekwe to observe the day from his cell, the meeting will be chaired by his cell chair.
He will only give closing remarks, said Cde Bimha.
