ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu and the Acting National Political Commissar Cde Patrick Chinamasa will today engage Minister of Local Government Hon July Moyo and Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities Honourable Daniel Garwe,m to understand the scope of the ongoing clean up exercise and housing demolitions in Harare and elsewhere around the country.

The engagement will be taking place at the revolutionary party`s Headquarters in Harare.

The background is that in the recent past few weeks City of Harare in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development embarked on a clean up program which targeted illegal structures and traders operating in designated areas and road servitudes.

The operation targeted areas in Mbare, Chitungwiza and other surrounding areas within Harare.
Last week, the operation reared its head in Melfort where houses under the Diamond Park Housing Scheme was demolished.

Massive demolitions of completed houses took place igniting vicious debate.
Thus the push by the ZANU PF national leadership to understand the scope of the exercise, both its legal and moral standing.

It is expected that at today’s consultative meeting with the relevant line Ministers, a clear position by the party and subsequently government will be mapped and outlined.

In a tour of flooded areas in Chitungwiza, Gweru and other affected areas, Ministers Moyo and Garwe promised government intervention to regularise irregular and illegal settlements in urban centres around the country.

However, then they did not mention if demolitions were going to be part of their intervention strategy.
