Ruling party ZANU PF says it is confident of winning the forthcoming by-elections, as the party`s policies have improved Zimbabwean lives.

In a radio interview on ZiFM earlier this week, ZANU PF Director of Information Cde Tafadzwa Mugwadi said they are unfazed that most of the seats being vied for were previously in the hands of the opposition.

“…ZANU PF is coming into the cities with a clear conscience of victory because we have seen and experienced the sound policies by President Emmerson Mnangagwa being accepted by the people,” said Cde Mugwadi.

Cde Mugwadi said the failures of the MDC-A over their two decade reign in urban areas has alienated them from voters.

“ZANU PF is ready to build on the sound policies of the new dispensation. The coming of the Second Republic has ushered a new perspective on service delivery especially in Harare.

Our capital city and Bulawayo have been turned into a pale shadow of their former selves by the MDC-A,” said Cde Mugwadi.

The show, which was hosted by Larry Kwirirayi had MDC-A spokesperson Fadzai Mahere and Independent Political analyst Terrence Simbi.

Simbi said the electorate should punish opposition for creating need for by-elections through infighting.

“As the electorate we have been deprived of representation due to recalls stemming from fights over who is the real MDC and leadership legitimacy in the political parties. This has led to MPs and Councillors assuming office as either a Mwonzora loyalist or Chamisa loyalist and eventually recalled on that same basis.

These parties masquerade as champions of Democracy yet do not follow the democratic procedures in the party to the letter,” Simbi said.

Mahere was at pains to sell her party position, relying on the default blame shifting tactic.

During the interview, she threatened to leave the discussion before going on to rant about how MDC-A’s unpreparedness was all ZANU PF’s fault.

She alleged that ZANU PF was the reason behind the factional splits in the opposition and all the resource deficit in their campaigns.

Cde Mugwadi responded saying ZANU PF does not offer political consultancy.

He added that when ZANU PF had its own internal scermishes in 2017 they resolved it without blaming opposition for it.

“Opposition should learn to deal with their own in fights without pointing fingers at ZANU PF,” said Cde Mugwadi.
