ZANU PF Acting Youth Secretary, Cde Tendai Chirau has reiterated that the revolutionary party remains the most democratic judging by it religious adherence to constitutional provisions.
Addressing a press conference today, flanked by the Youth League Director Cde Blessed Ziome and Rtd Colonel Mudzingwa of the Party Commissariat, at the Party Headquarters in Harare, Cde Chirau said that the recently held Provincial elections which served as nominations for the May elective Conference, proved beyond doubt that democracy is alive in the ruling party.
“We can stand with pride and declare that ZANU PF is the most democratic party in the country judging by the recently held democratic process which transpired in the Provinces. The transparent elective nomination process which elected 40 youths to stand for election at the forthcoming elective youth conference, is testimony that democracy resides in the party,” said Cde Chirau.
The Provincial elective nominations, which were held on April 24, 2022, saw an overwhelming response by the party’s youths, with 132 CVs making it out of the initial 155 submissions.
The subsequent nomination process whittled these down to the constitutional 40 nominees to stand for election at the Youth Conference.
“The Youth League is now asking the 40 nominees to submit their applications stating the positions they wish to contest at the Youth Conference. This will assist the organisers to prepare accordingly especially with such materials as ballot papers,” said Chirau.
The outgoing executive led by Cde Tendai Chirau, which organised and supervised this process, together with the Party Commissariat, will preside over the elective National Conference which will then usher in a new Youth League National Executive Council.
The Youth League is considered as the vanguard of the party whose role is to defend the party, perpetuate the nationalist ideology and to ensure continuity of the revolutionary ethos.
