ZANU-PF adopts scientific recruitment drive

Hosia Mviringi

President Mnangagwa has challenged his party ZANU PF members to roll up their sleeves and roll out a massive membership recruitment and voter registration in the remaining period to the 2023 harmonised elections.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Harare on the occasion of the 364th Ordinary Session of the Politburo, the President said that party structures have to get down to serious work, now that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has released its preliminary figures on the registered voters.
“Although the voter registration exercise is still ongoing, I except each province of the party to have a preliminary scientific process of determining how many of those will account for the ZANU PF vote. This must go beyond sloganeering and translate to strategy,” said the President in a no-holds-barred address.

Recently published ZEC statistics reveal that at least 5.8 million Zimbabweans have made the decision to participate in the forthcoming elections as registered voters.
In response to the published figures the President said that no time remained to be wasted but that every minute has to be utilised for a massive recruitment of new supporters who must ensure that they register as voters.
It has become apparently clear that if the party is to make good on its target of snatching five million votes for the President, more people have to get registered without fail.
The party’s chances for a resounding victory rest on the ability by the two party wings, the Youth League and the Women’s League’s ability and commitment to recruit new members for the party and to encourage everyone to register as voters.
While the Youth League should work extra hard in recruiting the highly volatile first time voters, the Women’s League should convince more women to register and vote for the revolutionary party.
“I specifically challenge the Youth and the Women’s League to along with their various associates to aggressively roll out membership and voter registration activities. The Key Result Area for all of us all is getting as many people as possible to register and ultimately vote for a ZANU PF victory in 2023,” said President Mnangagwa.
Women are a key component of the Zimbabwe electoral demographics, having constituted the majority of registered voters, at 53,8 percent, according to latest ZEC published figures.
Yet the youth, those 35 years old and below, constitute up to 67.7 per cent of total population, according to the previous census.

“In light of this, the Politburo alongside the Central Committee, PC’s and Provincial Executive Committees must provide strategic guidance to our lower structures. We must all focus on the bigger picture of mobilising the people to win elections. There is no room for bickering and personality clashes which may ultimately cost our party voters. This is alien to our value system as a party,” said President Mnangagwa.
