The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works are warning the public to exercise caution in the upcoming days as the country is expecting torrential rains.

Torrential rains are heavy rains, which are sustained over days.

In a press statement, jointly released by the Ministry and the Met Department, citizens were urged to be on high alert from January 6 to January 8.

The rains are expected to be more than 50mm, with thunderstorms and strong winds with potential of blowing of roof tops or causing trees to fall.

The public is being warned to stay indoors during thunderstorms unless in case of extreme emergency.

If traveling is a necessity, drivers should exercise caution on the roads as visibility may be reduced.

People were also urged to stay away from flooded rivers.

Areas likely to be affected are Mashonaland, Manicaland, parts of Midlands, and Masvingo.

District Civil Protection Committees have been mobilized countrywide.
