President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised to improve the lives of medical doctors operating in Zimbabwe.
He said the second republic is in the process of improving Zimbabwean lives and doctors will not be left behind.
President Mnangagwa made these remarks at the commissioning of two blocks, of four floored, three-bedroom apartments in Marimba.
The flats will be occupied by medical doctors, who in previous engagements with Government had requested assistance with accommodation.
“Government has embarked on a housing program dedicated to public servants. The two blocks are going to be allocated to junior medical doctors.
These are some of the non-monetary incentives the Government is putting in place for medical staff who are at the frontline in the fight against COVID-19,” said President Mnangagwa.
The flats are a wholly Government funded project under the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities who were allocated ZW$41 million in November 2020.
The flats are meant to reduce the living costs of medical doctors by being a source of cheap and affordable housing.
President Mnangagwa promised to significantly reduce the housing deficit.
“We have in excess of 1.2 million deficit in housing and my Government has taken a decision to address that. We are accelerating the provision of accommodation to people and numerous housing projects which had stalled are being completed and we will commission them,” said President Mnangagwa.
