We are making progress on water situation – City of Harare

The City of Harare says it has made progress in securing water purification chemicals, which has been a spot of bother for the past few days.
Most of Harare has been receiving low-pressure water because the city is managing meagre stocks of water purification chemicals.
They claim their local suppliers are failing to satisfy demand.
In a statement, City of Harare said they have found a way around their failure to deliver water to households, forcing motorists to move around with buckets of water in their boots to capitalise on any borehole they come across.
In a statement, Acting City of Harare Spokesperson Innocent Ruwende said the situation is improving.
“This follows the closure of Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant on Wednesday last week due to supply chain challenges that were affecting the availability of water treatment chemicals.
The City resumed pumping at Prince Edward Water Works on August 5, 2022 and Morton Jaffray, albeit not at full scale on August 6, 2022,” said Ruwende.
He said affected areas are likely to see an improvement on water availability.
“As supplies of aluminium sulphate and chlorine gas improve we will increase pumping into the Central Business District and western suburbs by tomorrow (Thursday 11 August 2022).
City of Harare will continue engaging suppliers to ensure seamless water supply schedules are maintained,” said Ruwende.
City of Harare has been criticised for trying to sabotage a complex waste management system at a time when they are struggling to procure water chemicals to last even a month.
Questions are being asked, on whether the fight against the Pomona project is really about resident interest or a corrupt fight to keep leakages unplugged?
Harare is currently pumping 200 megalitres per day, against a demand of 400 megalitres, yet of the little they pump, 60 percent is lost.
