Twenty Armed Robbers Attack Security Guards, Vanishes with 63 Tobacco Bales
At least 20 armed robbers attacked eight security guards at a Mvurwi Farm and vanished with 63 tobacco bales.
The robbers who are now under police radar had unidentified pistol machetes, okapi knives, and iron bars.
The incident happened at Wilmode Farm.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the robbers tied up the guards with ropes before proceeding to grading shades and stole 63 bales.
Some of the criminals are posing as policemen, have been robbing tobacco farmers at gunpoint as they move their bales at night.
Farmers have also been falling prey to thieves at the auction floors, especially in Harare.
The farmers have been urged to be wary of criminals who take advantage of the increased human and vehicular traffic at the auction floors during the selling season to commit offenses.
Last week, police in Harare arrested one of the criminals and recovered 15 tobacco bales.
Meanwhile, police in Epworth are appealing for information that may assist with the investigation of a case of robbery in which a taxi driver was attacked by two suspects last Friday.
“The suspects tied the victim with shoelaces before stealing a Huawei Honor cellphone, US$18.00 and a silver Toyota Corolla vehicle registration number AET 8592. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.”
