The Zimbabwe Republic Police have so far arrested three people over theft and resell of inputs meant for small scale farmers.
The suspects arrested in Epworth are in police custody and are set to be arraigned before a Harare Magistrate this Tuesday.
The three accused Cecilia Mupakami(46), Fariai Makaza (44), and Victor Kagamba (42) are believed to be part of the ZANU PF DCC in Zone 5.
According to a police memo, the stolen items which were recovered by the police five by 50kg Compound D Fertilizer and five by 5kg Zachomatara seed maize.
These will be exhibited before the court as evidence.
In another case of abuse of the farming inputs, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi has revealed that farming inputs were being illegally sold in Rushinga as well.
“The ZRP warns the public against abuse of Government’s agricultural inputs facilities. On 19/11/21, ZRP Rushinga arrested Siyai Kakuruwo (43) after he sold fertilizer from Government’s cotton facility to Munyaradzi Mudzikatire at Mabvundudzi Buisness Centre,” said Nyathi.
He said Munyaradzi Mudzikatire is on the run and investigations are ongoing.
Last week Provincial Development Coordinator for Harare Metropolitan province Mr Tafadzwa Muguti warned ZANU-PF DCC and District officials that the Pfumvudza Presidential Inputs were not for resale.
He said this while addressing farmers and ZANU-PF supporters gathered at the launch of the Pfumvudza Intwasa Presidential Input Scheme for urban farmers in Hatcliffe.
