Zimbabwe men`s football team, the Warriors, have suffered a major blow as most of their European stars are unable to travel for the impending Afcon qualifiers against Zambia and Botswana.
Some of the countries in which our star players are stationed have included Zimbabwe on the list of countries their citizens and residents cannot travel to.
Some of the names which will not make it include Marshall Munetsi (France), Tinotenda Kadewere (France) and England based Marvelous Nakamba.
Zimbabwe plays Botswana in Francistown stadium next week and 23 foreign based players confirmed their availability, with the first group expected to arrive on Saturday.
Though some of them are not the regular first team players the country has gotten used to.
Fans will find solace in that skipper Knowledge Musona, is likely to be available on both match days.
Warriors General Manager Mr Wellington Mpandare said ZIFA is struggling to secure flights to Botswana.
“We had planned to leave on the 24th for Botswana but we are facing challenges to secure flights from Gaborone to Francistown on the 24th, the only flight that is there leaves in the morning and we can’t make it, we had also opted to fly on the 25th but again there are no connecting flights. So we have notified the Botswana FA because it is their duty to provide us with transport to the match venue,” he said.
The technical department and local player, goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda are already in camp.
Warriors are in the same qualifying group with Algeria Zambia and Botswana.
Only top two teams will make it to the Afcon finals and pundits are saying Zimbabwe has a strong chance of making it, depending on the outcome of the next two matches.
