Three Suspects Arrested for Smuggling Firearms and Broncleer Syrup in Zimbabwe

On June 23rd, 2024, Zimbabwe Republic Police apprehended three individuals for smuggling firearms and Broncleer Syrup at the Beitbridge border post. The suspects, identified as Mehluli Nkomo (35), Brendon Dube (28), and Wellington Ndlovu (34), were found in possession of two 9mm P.A.K Pistols with empty magazines and 100 x 100 ml boxed Broncleer Syrup.

 

The trio were traveling in a Toyota Quantum vehicle towing a trailer with a dead body. The vehicle was traveling from South Africa, during an inspection at Kudakwashe Saveka Vehicle Terminal, North Bound, Port Health Inspection Bay, the firearms and 100 x 100ml Broncleer Syrup were found stashed in a box which was covered with 40 reflector vests.

 

Meanwhile, police are investigating a separate murder incident that occurred on June 22nd, 2024, along Beitbridge-Panda Mine Road near Tongwanani Village. A suspect, identified as Philmon Chamunorwa Tongooona (33), was found near the scene with a firearm.

 

According to the police, the suspects attacked the victim’s employee before stealing a cellphone and US$150.00 cash. The victim fled the scene but was shot in the back. The suspects then stole goods from the scene and fled.
