The difference between politics of psyechedelics and politics on the ground

Nevanji Nehoreka

Quos Deus vult perdere, prius dementat is a Latin phrase literally translated to mean; Those whom God wishes to destroy, he first deprives of reason or commonly undertsood to be, ‘Whom the gods want to destroy, first they make mad.’

The above phrase can best be attributed to a particular man in Zimbabwean politics or even to his followers, which have been named by some as the Zizi Cult.

The moniker which taken literally to mean the bird asssociated with witchcraft in African folklore, the owl, for they certainly are mentally bewitched.

It can be located in the shona word “zii” which describes silence.

That group of supporters to the uninitiated becomes a psychedelic.

A psychedelic class of hallucinogenic drugs whose primary effect is to trigger non-ordinary states of consciousness. This causes specific psychological, visual, and auditory changes, and often a substantially altered state of consciousness, this is the medical definition of pyschedelics.

The definition is important for our story of the day. Basically they create a state which one may call delusions of grandeur or grandiose delusions.

A delusion of grandeur is a false or unusual belief about one’s greatness.

A person may believe, for instance, that they are famous, can end world wars, or that they are immortal.

They often accompany other mental health symptoms, including other delusions.

They may be related to mental or physical health conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or some types of dementia.

We just came from a voting period. A time chracterised by what many term silly season.

We saw ‘attempted kidnappings’, ‘attacks’ on certain fringe politicians homes, so called attacks in car parks of others and violent behavior by some who irreverently call themselves Madzibaba eShanduko….false prophets if I may add for how else would one describe a ‘prophecy’ that never comes to fulfillment? 15 years of a prophecy that never comes to fruition?

The biggest folly of silly season is full stadiums on campaign day.

Well, to be fair, these are for all major political parties including ZANU PF. Chamisa’s people accused ZANU PF of bussing people to its rallies while he and his Zizi Cult claimed that they walked to their rallies.

This was of course before videos and pictures of his supporters being ‘lorried’ to rallies began to surface. I will not delve into how they managed to get women into those trucks witout disrespecting the other gender.

Full rallies are not the issue, but empty voting halls are!

A trip around most urban constituencies that were having by-elections yesterday would have shown gloomy or depressed queues compared to the numbers who ‘walked’ to the rallies.

I pick on urban constituencies for they were the hardest hit by the recalls and the need for by-elections and they were the ones in which most of the media circus was focused on.

So we had the numbers appearing at polling stations not comparing with those appearing at rallies.

So bad was the voter apathy that Hopewell Chin’ono, an opposition who masquerades as a journalist mourned about it.

He wondered what had to be done for people to turn out and vote.

So clear to all the followers of the opposition CCC that ZANU PF people come out to vote and that they on the other hand had not made any progress that @turf_dappa admitted, “As long as ZanuPf is still getting significant numbers in CCC strongholds awhilst CCC gets whitewashed in Zanupf strongholds 2023 we’ll cry again till 2028.”

Zinz Obie in observing results from Murehwa South stated, “Vakomana ka, tichiri kure dai tirivamwe tadzikama hedu.”

Thus the folly of Psychedelic politics was revealed.

The man who fancies himself a boy, a compatriot of God had suddenly been as happened in 2018 been stripped of his godhood and aura of invincibility.

The fickleness of the rented or bussed crowds had been exposed by the ballot box.

I am betting Catherine Hoey is now waking up from the induced trip of psychedelic drugs were she along with another accident of birth and genetics named Lord Oates had predicted and seen a Chamisa CCC whitewash.

Hopewell Chin’ono admitted, “This result in Mutasa where @CCCZimbabwe lost narrowly to ZANUPF shows the importance of getting citizens registered, door to door campaigns and getting the vote out!”

This should be understood in its context to mean, those that follow Chamisa are not registered to vote, and do not go to vote! He accepts and understands that Zanu PF people do vote and win fairly too!

There cannot be any claims of cheating for the Zimbabwe Electoral System was praised even by the rabidly anti-government ZimLive edited by Mduduzi Mathuthu for its openness.

The elections were observed by their favoured Western Embassies.

They are now finally waking up to reality and seeing that, security chaps running after a car, carrying small black bags called portifolios colloquially in an attempt to mirror the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Close Security Unit, making declarations such as, “I will only lift up the telephone and make a phone call and money comes” does not win elections.

They are beginning to realise that pageantry and declaring self equal to ‘madzimambo’ and claiming closeness and kinship to chiefs is not a winning formula.

Hopewell even declared that competence matters, this clearly is to say he does not see it currently.

Pychedellic aesthetics remove reality and makes one create an unreal world reality where he is a saviour, a master and the solution to everything.

These elections have just exposed Chamisa as that, a mad man who left the world of reality ages ago!

They may have gotten a headstart in the byelections, but celebrating the seats is akin to a man holding a celebratory vigil because his cattle returned to the kraal.

The seats were theirs anyway, although Zanu Pf managed to take a few.
