A newly formed collective improvement platform, Teachers for Economic Development (Teachers for ED) have received full support from the Government.
Teachers for ED, an empowerment vehicle for educators, were in June given approval by the Permanent Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education Mrs Tumisang Thabela to set up structures across the country`s ten provinces.
In a circular dated June 22 2022, PS Thabela said, “It is noted that Teachers for Economic Development has completed setting up structures in the 10 provinces of the country and requested authority to launch the provincial chapters and the national chapter. In view of the above, authority is hereby granted to conduct the provincial and national launches of the Teachers for Economic Development.”
Today, Government affirmed the support to activities being organised by Teachers for ED, provided the activities do not interfere with learning processes.
In a letter addressed to Teachers for ED Secretary General Takaiteyi Masikati, Acting Primary and Secondary Education Ms Kwadzanai Nyanungo said the planned programme to raise awareness among teachers in the country has been approved.
“Your communication dated September 20, 2022 is hereby acknowledged. Permission is granted for the roll out of the economic development programme in schools on the understanding that teacher participation in your proposed activities is in the spirit of the Voluntary Teacher Capacity Building Programme with due care that there is no disruption to planned teaching and learning processes in schools, “ wrote Ms Nyanungo.
