Stunner, a ZimDancehall chanter whose real name is Desmond Chideme, has parted ways with his wife Dyonne Tafirenyika after a running court battle after he allegedly assaulted her over ’her phone’.. This was heard at Harare Magistrate court yesterday.
Stunner is facing allegations of assaulting his wife, Dyonne Tafirenyika, at a Focalistic’s show in April after a performance at the Harare International Conference Centre, where he was a supporting act. He is said to have thrashed his wife after she had refused to give him her phone.
Dumisani Mthombeni, Stunner’s lawyer revealed the separation and was opposing an application by the State to postpone Stunner’s trial. However, the State had made an application for the Magistrate to postpone Stunner’s trial as it wanted to record statements from unnamed witnesses.
“Stunner is desirous to stand trial and is confident that he will be acquitted of the falls accusations, we are eager to defend our client so that he can get on with his life. The complainant and the accuse d have one child together but are no longer together as a couple,” confirmed Dumisani Mthombeni, Stunner’s lawyer.
In defending his client, Mthombeni also noted that Dyonne is scared that if the trial starts, she will be exposed. He further argued that she was trying to cook up allegations by introducing witnesses to cement her false evidence.
“It was never mentioned, no names have been given to the court on the new witnesses which we believe are now being created to come and support these false allegations,” argued lawyer Mthombeni.
Magistrate Mashavirakure postponed the matter to 13 June to allow the state to record statements from other witnesses. Meanwhile, Stunner and Dyonne are yet to confirm the separation.
