Strong winds swept through Muzarabani district, leaving a trail of destruction and affecting hundreds of residents.
The gusts, which struck late Sunday afternoon, caused significant damage to homes, schools and the venue that was prepared for the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s visit.
Local authorities report that dozens of houses were either partially or completely destroyed, forcing many families to seek shelter in community halls and schools.
Preliminary assessments indicate that the winds uprooted trees, damaged power lines, and disrupted transportation as debris littered main roads.
This incident highlights the need for improved disaster preparedness and early warning systems in vulnerable regions like Muzarabani, which has experienced similar weather events in the past due to its proximity to the Zambezi River floodplain.
