The late Zimbabwe Investment Development Authority Chief Executive Officer Douglas Munetsi who died in a mysterious inferno at his Northfields Apartments penthouse has been accorded a State Assisted funeral.

Chief Secretary to the President Dr Misheck Sibanda made the announcement this morning in a Press Release.

“His Excellency, the President, Cde E.D Mnangagwa has directed that the late Douglas Munetsi who passed on earlier in the week be accorded State-Assisted funeral. The Office of the President and Cabinet will liaise with the bereaved Munetsi family to ensure this directive by His Excellency the President is effected,” Dr Sibanda said.

Munetsi who has been a prominent investment banker in his own right, was instrumental in the establishment of Zimbabwe’s one-stop shop investment authority, ZIDA, which saw a raft of reforms to the country’s investment policies.

He was appointed to the position by President Mnangagwa two years ago.

It was through his steadfast contribution to the dream of a better Zimbabwe that Munetsi stood firm in the hot seat to see Zimbabwe scaling the dizzy heights on the ease of doing business index worldwide.

The Zimbabwe Investment Development Authority (ZIDA) has developed into the most critical cog in the country’s quest to become the international investment destination of choice which attracts quality capital.

His role involved making some unpopular decisions that were always in the greater national interests such as when bad deals had to be rejected.

For the whole time that he was at ZIDA, he always led from the front, on its own a show of his passion to see through Zimbabwe’s vision to become an empowered and inclusive upper middle income economy by 2030.

His zeal made him the personification of the President’s vision of an empowered, inclusive and developed society which leaves no one behind.

He was instrumental in the design and packaging of the now popular Zimbabwean Pavilion at the ongoing Dubai Expo which has excited the world to become one of the most visited pavilion at the premier exhibition.

Munetsi led Banc ABC (formerly ABC Bank) from its inception in 1999 until its acquisition by Bob Diamond owned Atlas Mara in 2014.

Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is seized with an investigation to ascertain the cause of his tragic death.
