State assisted funeral for Major General Chanakira

Government has availed a state assisted funeral the late Permanent Secretary in the office of the Vice President, Major General Chanakira.
Major General Chanakira died on May 26 after a short illness.
Vice President (Rtd) General Constantino Chiwenga described Major General Chanakira as a consummate professional.
He visited the Chanakira household in Mabelreign today to pay his respects.
“Major General Chanakira was a hard worker, you had to remind him to rest. We are still trying to come to terms with his death,” said Vice President Chiwenga.
Major General Chanakira was an avid reader, described by his contemporaries as a razor-sharp scholar.
Major General Chanakira is a war veteran who joined the liberation struggle in 1975.
His Chimurenga name was Cde Garikai Musavengana.
After the war, he joined the Zimbabwe National Army where he served rising through the ranks until he became a Brigadier General.
In 2017 he left military service and joined civil service as a Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President.
