The Sports and Recreation Commission has suspended all sporting activities once again after a brief resumption, due to continued rise in Covid-19 infections.

The ban take effect from tomorrow (July 3) and will be reviewed on a weekly basis.

However, national teams have been given clearance to continue with their preparations.

Those spared are Athletes preparing for the 2021 Paralympic and Olympic games, Chevrons preparing for the Bangladesh tour, Warriors preparing for the COSAFA tournament and Charles Manyuchi who is set to be involved in a bout in Masvingo this coming weekend

In a statement, the SRC informed the associations to encourage their members to get vaccinated.

“For the avoidance of doubt this suspension extends to the ZIFA-PSL tournament for the Chibuku super cup and all sports previously classified as low risk. All national sports association, clubs, gyms and related stakeholders should abide by this suspension without exception.

The SRC will continue to liase with Government. However, in the meantime Nation sport associations are strongly urged to encourage their members to undergo vaccination, particularly those with members participating at a national level,” the statement reads.

The ban is a major blow to local clubs who were participating in the Chibuku Cup as they were using the tournament as preparatory for the resumption of the National Soccer league.
