‘Retailers should provide employees with transport’

Following the cold-blood murder of Spar Hatfied employee last week, there have been discussions online with calls for companies that finish late to provide their workers with transport.

Faith Musonza (36) of Chadcombe, Hatfield, was found in a pool of blood with her nipples and nails ripped off.

It is understood that Musonza knocked off work at around 7 PM on Monday this week and headed home but never made it home.

Investigations are underway.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi last week said,

“Police in Harare are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of murder in which Faith Musonza was found dead in a drain near her house along Chiremba Road, Chadcombe, Hatfield, on February 13.”

In the wake of her death, there have been calls

Chikomba legislator and Young Women 4 ED national coordinator Tatenda Mavetera questioned Spar’s Human Resources approach.

“My condolences to Faith Musonza’s family. My question to Spar is what is their company policy on safety of workers after knocking off late because 7pm is late for any woman? The safety of female workers is very important they should be protected,” said Honourable Mavetera.

Women rights activist Namatai Kwekweza also raised similar concerns.

“The gruesome murder of Faith Musonza must make us reflect not only on the safety of women at night but also in our communities in general. It gets dark quickly, especially if it rains with cloud cover. No street lights, no electricity in our streets,” Kwekweza said.

Speaking on behalf of Spar management, following the calls, Hatfield Branch Accounts Administrator, Mr Leslie Muzavazi said he will take up the issue with the top management.

“The situation we are having here is unfortunate and we are going to carry the issue to the management and it is very unfortunate that we have lost one of us in such a sad way,” Spar Hatfield Branch Accounts Administrator, Mr Leslie Muzavazi said.
