Cabinet has confirmed the relocation of Matabeleland North Provincial Offices from Bulawayo Metropolitan Province to Lupane Centre, with operations expected to commence in the new provincial capital beginning of September 2024.
The decision was made following the presentation of a report by Vice President Col. (Rtd) K.C.D. Mohadi, who assessed the state of readiness during a visit to Lupane on 20 June 2024.
Speaking at the Post Cabinet briefing today, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Hon Dr Jenfan Muswere said, “The construction of civil servant housing units in Lupane is 90% complete. The houses can be immediately completed, while theĀ Government Offices can also be utilized before the end of the third quarter of 2024.”
The remaining work on the housing units is expected to be swiftly completed, allowing for immediate occupancy.
Dr Muswere added that fifty-five government officials have volunteered to relocate to Lupane, and 19 houses have been allocated to accommodate them. These officials represent various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, ensuring that the public will begin receiving services from Lupane, the new Provincial Capital of Matabeleland North, from the 1st ofSeptember, 2024.
The relocation marks a significant step in the decentralization efforts of the government, aimed at bringing services closer to the people of Matabeleland North Province. The government is also monitoring the ongoing construction of the Lupane Provincial Hospital, which will further bring health services closer to the people in the region.
