Pupils Escape Death By A Whisker As Hired Bus Catches Fire

At least seventy-five (75) Pakame High School pupils escaped death on Sunday when their hired Inter Africa bus was involved in an accident along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

The bus was taking students to Shurugwi from Harare, when the fire broke out.

National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident. He said all students escaped unhurt, but lost their property in the fire.

“The accident occurred at the 181km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

“The accident occurred after a pirate taxi driver suddenly encroached onto his (bus driver’s) lane.”He said.All pupils escaped, but some lost their property.” Nyathi said.

He said police were yet to ascertain the value of the lost property.
